Taking family photos with toddlers is always a crap shoot, you never know who will be willing to participate and what kind of bribes you’ll have to make to get through the session.
The last family photos we had taken were done in June in Florida, in the ridiculous heat. Needless to say those didn’t turn out exactly like I had envisioned. My husband looked great, as usual, and my mother-in-law was fully entertained by the whole ordeal, but I was left sweaty and frustrated that we didn’t manage to get a single photo of us looking halfway decent together. Although they did make for one hilarious Christmas card.
Fast forward to a year later and we had an all around much better experience.
Last month we had the pleasure of meeting Becky Frey for a family photo session. She was the first photographer I met in the Columbus area and I am so glad I did. Not only was she flexible and a joy to work with, she also worked well with our boys and really was able to capture the essence of their little personalities.
I know I’m bias and all being their mother, but look out how adorable they are. Tuck’s expression in the second photo is a look I get from him everyday. These photos were actually taken at an earlier shoot with Becky. We had some technical difficulties that day, but she made sure to reschedule with us and was extremely professional.
On the day we rescheduled the boys were being just a bit more difficult to work with, but that didn’t stop Becky from capturing some sweet and authentic moments of our family.
The shoot turned into more of lifestyle shoot than a family portrait type shoot but I was more than pleased with the results. She didn’t just capture our family. she captured exactly what our life is like these days.
Chaotic but filled with love.
The relationship my husband has with our eldest son is like no other, they are two peas in a pod, as you can see. I guarantee my husband and I will cherish these photos forever.
When all else fails and you still can’t get the kids to cooperate, just send them to the nearest park. You’re bound to catch some more smiles and fun.
I chose to do our shoot at Scioto Audubon Metro Park because it offers lots of gorgeous natural scenery as well as an incredible back drop of the city. My main hope was to capture a photo with our family with Columbus in the background, we’ve only lived here two years now and am not sure how much longer we’ll be here. I really wanted to have a nice photo to acknowledge our time here in this awesome city.
I didn’t get exactly the photo I had envisioned. but the ones I did get are better than I could ever have imagined. They truly represent us as a family, and when my boys look back on them years from now, I know they will know how much they are loved.
If you are in the Columbus area and in need of some family photos, I highly recommend contacting Becky Frey.
