Summer 2018 was fully loaded with fun for Mike & Tuck. We took a road trip to Florida, spent a day at Cedar Point, played Tee Ball for the first time and so much more!
We kicked off this summer early this year with a road trip down to Florida with just me and the boys last May. On the way down we broke up the drive by stopping just outside Atlanta, Ga to stay the night with Kevin’s cousin, Kirsten and her husband, Greg. The boys did so good on the ride down but could not wait to get out of the car. Luckily we still had plenty of daylight left to go to a park and out to dinner.
The next day we were back on the road to Florida to surprise my grandfather on his 90th birthday. I don’t get nearly the amount of time I’d like to spend with my grandparents so it was so nice to be able to spend this special day celebrating with my Papa John.
While in Vero, we got to spend a lot of time with family, including some beach days and a trip to the Brevard Zoo.
I decided to stay in Vero through Mother’s Day weekend since we were having so much fun spending time with family and friends. It was really nice being able to spend the day with my mother and Kev’s mom as well. Although my boys decided to make getting one nice picture taken with them a little harder than it needed to be.
The boys especially loved the quality time they got harassing their Uncle Cody.
And hanging out at parks with their Papa Rock.
And of course having lunch at one of our favorite spots in Vero, Waldo’s, with their “Emma” (Kevin’s mom).
After our trip to Florida, the next big thing on our summer agenda was a day trip to Cedar Point for the first time. I met up with Kevin’s cousin’s wife and their kids for a fun day in the sun. The boys had a blast riding all the rides in the kiddie area and both of them rode their first ever rollercoaster with me. The look on Mikey’s face when we took our first turn was absolutely priceless. Tucker’s favorite thing of the day was the bumper cars, even though he could barely drive them, and Mikey’s favorite was the Ferris wheel, or “Big Wheel” as he prefers to call it.
This summer the boys also had their first ever Tee Ball season. Mikey was a natural and Tucker surprised me with how much he was willing to get involved and really try to play. Every Saturday they would have a 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game. You can watch more from their season here, including Tucker chasing after the ball almost every time he hit it when he was up to bat.
One thing from this summer that Tucker has NOT stopped talking about is Storybook Village at the Ohio History Connection. He had the best time ever meeting all the different characters there, especially his friends from Super Why, Pete the Cat, and Llama Llama.
Also this summer, we did some hiking,
enjoyed the new splash pad at the Grove City YMCA,
bought the boys their first slip-n-slide,
let the boys try sparklers for the first time on the Fourth of July,
took the boys canoeing at Sharon Woods Metro Park, even though we only got out on the water for about 5 minutes before there was thunder and we had to go back in,
Mikey and Tucker earned their Metro Park Explorer patches,
we went to the Ohio State Fair,
and Mikey had his last day of preschool in July. You can read all about his first year of school, here.
Needless to say, it was a pretty busy summer. Which is one of the reasons I haven’t been posting nearly as much as I would like to. Life with littles sure gets crazy sometimes.
This Fall Mikey has officially started Pre-K at his new school and absolutely LOVES it. The first words out of his mouth every day I pick him up are, “Today was the best day ever!” I’m so excited to see what this school year holds for him and am anxiously awaiting his first field trip to the pumpkin patch next month.
Tucker is doing preschool at home with me this year. It’s been a lot of fun spending so much one on one time with him and watching him learn new things every day. He’s also officially out of diapers! For the first time in over four years we are a diaper free household! At one point I thought I’d never see the day.
The boys have also started Flag Football and had their first game last weekend. Mikey and Tucker both scored their first touchdowns!
